…The Show
Valid Syntax is a short podcast looking at the status of Open Source projects as reported at Sourceforge.net, Freshmeat.net, and others that you might find useful for any OS. Also, with your help we will spotlight on each show a Project of the Day, Editorials, and possibly have some fun along the way.
…Me
My Name is Kreg Steppe, I’m currently employed as a web developer. I have been in the IT/Computer field since the late 80’s and I have done about everything from System Administration to programming.
I am a fan of Open Source software. Sometimes free (as in beer and free speech) can be better than it’s commercial counterparts, or at least give you options that you may have not had before.
Ever since 1998 when I ordered a copy of Redhat 5.2 and installed it, I have been hooked. I converted the ISP I was incharge of to Linux, ran it on my desktop, and preached to a lot of people about the virtues of Open Source software. I hope they listened.
For a long time I was under the impression that Linux was the whole package that I purchased utilities and all. Of course this isn’t the case, and that is where ValidSyntax comes in.
